Behind KMD Press

A little imagination. A lot of curiosity. And a lifetime of making things.

Hello! I'm Karen Demers, the person behind KMD Press.

After five years of art school, my creative career took me through fine art, television design, and digital media. Beginning in 1995, I was part of the pioneering days of the internet, helping develop some of the earliest educational websites and interactive learning experiences. Much of my work explored how storytelling, entertainment, and humour could make learning more engaging for curious minds of all ages.

Today, KMD Press brings together my love of art, design, learning, and storytelling to create books that entertain, inspire, and occasionally teach you something when you're not looking.

Where imagination meets technology

I use artificial intelligence as one of my creative tools, helping me visualize and develop ideas that begin in my imagination. Each finished illustration can involve hours of creative direction, experimentation, refinement, and hands-on preparation, guided by my background in traditional art and professional design.

AI is part of my creative process, but the imagination, decisions, and attention to detail are very much my own.

Why KMD Press?

Because I still love making things.

Whether I'm developing an illustrated fairy tale, researching the peculiar history of computer viruses, creating a colouring book, or discovering an unusual story for the Curious & Wonderful blog, the goal is much the same:

To create something thoughtful, imaginative, and perhaps a little unexpected.

I'm an independent creator, still learning, still experimenting, and still excited by the possibilities.

And I'm very glad you stopped by.
